Objective:-
This 1-day course is aimed at yachtsmen who are looking at
spending some time at sea or require their commercial endorsement.
The experience gained by attending this course is invaluable
and may one day save your crew and your own life.
You will learn:-
How to fire flares, send a Mayday and activate a EPIRB How
to deploy a liferaft. How to righten capsized liferaft. How
to survive in a liferaft. Basic first aid treatment. Rescue
techniques by helicopter, lifeboat and ship.
A part of the course will be spent in
the swimming pool and students are encouraged to bring along
their own wet gear and life jacket so they can experience first
hand getting into a liferaft dressed in their sailing gear.
On completion of the course candidates will be given a RYA Sea
Survival certificate.

- Know the actions that should be taken prior to abandonment
of a vessel.
- Know the main types of life-saving appliances.
- Know the importance of regular safety briefings. ·
- Lifejackets and Liferafts
- Know how to don a lifejacket - please bring along your
own lifejacket.
- Know the correct launch procedure for an inflatable
liferaft.
- Know how to board a liferaft 'wet and dry'.
- Know the correct method for righting a capsized liferaft.
- Know the use of liferaft equipment together with additional
equipment. ·
- Principles of Survival
- Principles of survival both in cold and hot water.
- Know the actions to protect survivors in a liferaft.
- Know the actions to aid location by rescue services.
- Know the basic first aid treatment.
- Search and Rescue
- Know the procedures for helicopter winching and other
rescue techniques.
- Know the general arrangements for search and rescue.
